Greg Mohr was born into this. He grew up in Rock Island, where his family opened a liquor store concept that exploded into three area bars and a deli. When he was eight years old, Greg was already helping out around the deli and learning the ropes.
As he grew up, Greg stayed true to his industry background. He manned the dishwashing stations and cashiers at his local pizza joint. He waited on and won over an endless stream of customers. By the time he earned his business degree, he was managing the restaurant he had been working in to make ends meet.
Greg moved to Chicago fresh out of college and immediately began moving up the ranks at the iconic Gibsons Restaurant Group. From there, the behemoth Lettuce Entertain You Restaurant Group tapped him to help manage Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab in downtown Chicago.
During his stint at Joe’s, Greg met Scott Weiner and the two quickly became rock-solid business partners. They started with The Fifty/50, partnered with the punk-rock geniuses at Chicago’s Bleeding Heart Bakery, and opened Roots Handmade Pizza in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood.
At Roots, Greg runs the front-of-house and publicity details.
But enough about Greg, let’s meet Scott.
